Mitchell Associates can work closely with your designer or architect. Or, if you have a good sense of your goals, we can work with you to develop your design ideas into a plan, complete with the architectural and structural drawings necessary for permitting. Commercial Projects
Custom renovations and new construction to suit the needs of lessees.
Our commercial projects have included renovating the former Patagonia shop in Georgetown and constructing a large, modern community center for a new residential development by Linde Development in Hyattsville, MD. We renovated a number of retail interiors in Georgetown, adapting to suit the needs of new lessees. We provided comprehensive project management for multi-unit condominium projects involving involved complete interior renovation of large historic buildings.

We begin with an empty shell by gutting your existing kitchen, update the plumbing and electric systems, ensuring your renovation will have real longevity as opposed to doing a quick makeover. In the next phase, we can maximize space and traffic flow while often doubling storage space. A complete kitchen renovation can take from 4-8 weeks, and clients usually stay in the house. Our complete kitchen and bathroom renovations are excellent financial investments in the value of your home.

Your bathrooms should be functional, practical, and comfortable, yet aesthetically impressive. We completely rebuild bathrooms to maximize space, functionality, and add modern styling. Starting with an empty shell to completely upgrade the plumbing and electric systems; often, we are able to slightly expand the size of the bathroom. Steam showers, freestanding tubs, and wet rooms (with tub and shower in one room with floor drains) are common installations.
Custom Millwork
Add cabinetry, trim, molding, and paneling customized to your home’s specifications.
Mitchell Associates specializes in designing and installing custom cabinetry, trim, molding, and paneling. We provide a seamless process by interfacing with expert custom cabinetmakers. Working with these master cabinetmakers, we can incorporate any sort of architectural detail or wood veneer that you can imagine. Of course, shelves or cabinets can include LED back-lighting or wiring for sound and entertainment systems. In addition, we build simple built-in cubbies and shelves.

Mitchell Associates consistently uses environmentally-sound materials, including plywood and trusses made from reclaimed wood byproducts. Our team uses environmentally safe and family-friendly products, including low VOC paints when necessary. Our DC waste haulers separate and recycle all construction debris; no cardboard or paper goes into the landfill. Mitchell Associates emphasizes energy-efficient design, insulation, and technology on every project.
Our Process
Mitchell Associates is highly motivated to plan, manage, and complete the project to match your vision on a timetable agreed upon by all parties. Our principal, Dave Mitchell, is involved in all phases of construction, starting with demolition and site management. Each day, he directly oversees employees and subcontractors, communicating with you as needed. The Mitchell Associates team carefully maintains daily job site maintenance, cleanliness, and security.

Planning and Contract
After an initial consultation and extensive planning, Mitchell Associates submits a proposal, including a detailed statement of the “scope of work” with a preliminary budget. The budget is completely transparent, showing subcontractors’ actual proposals and costs; labeling fixed costs and allowances; and indicating Mitchell Associates fees for the project as a whole. After we discuss any changes, we update those proposal documents and submit them as a contract with architectural drawings.

Drawings and Permits
Our team can work with your architect’s plans, or we can have our own architect draft detailed drawings. In either case, Mitchell Associates helps to turn the vision into a structurally sound plan, and then interface with the local government building departments to gain approvals and permits.

Daily Supervision
Dave Mitchell is a hands-on manager in the field every day. He facilitates excellent communication with you and the owners of nearby properties, especially if their property will be affected by the project. He is personally on-site when materials are delivered, when a subcontractor begins a job, and always present when a subcontractor is working. When assistants are on-site without him, Dave is in constant communication with them. Many of our clients remain in their home while we work.
